This is the story of America Singer and the Selection of Prince Maxon. It’s a dystopian, romance novel which recounts the story of a girl of Illea who belongs to caste five (artist caste). Being in the perfect time to attend the so famous Selection for Prince Maxon, who´s winner will become the new princess, just as the King and Queen meet. She would deny the idea of even thinking it, because she already had Aspen, a caste six charming boy, who is her secret boyfriend. Living with a paranoid mom, a wonderful dad, and two minor siblings, America lives happy overall. However, one day, Aspen will decide to make her participate for the Selection, he feels guilty for not giving America what she deserves. America goes through the inscription process, and it’s selected between other 35 women all over Illea to attend the royal castle. America doesn’t trust much herself, that’s why she is shure she will just last some days in the castle, the sufficient to receive some money for her family and return to her beloved Aspen, however, everything changes, when days before leaving, Aspen brokes with her. Later on, America will throw away the bad thoughs she had about Prince Maxon, as that he turned out to be as charming as his appeal. America will have to deal with the decision of her tow year love of the guy who appeared and turn her world upside down, too.

Main Characters:

  • America Singer: Caste five, main character, 17-years old girl, specialized in singing, as that her caste is the artist one. Helps lots in her house chores, beautiful but she doesn’t seem to notice nor take care of it.

  • Prince Maxon: Caste one, unique son of Queen Amberly and King Clarkson. A gentleman, seems attracted by America, really innocent about the outside of his castle.

  • Aspen Leger: Caste six, Americas two years boyfriend, servants caste, supports his family, handsome but too proud to just accept how he has to live. Ends up as a guardian in the royal castle.

Personal Opinion:

  • It might seem is a little too childish, or little too trashy when literature talking, however, I thought it deserved a look, I finished the trilogy in a week or so. The Selection has lots of similarities with other books and works such as the Hunger Games, both are dystopian books. However, I think that The Selection is unique and special. It brings up a normal girl, or well a tomboy mostly, who would not desire for a single second the life she finally gets. Her strength throughout the Selection, shows that money is not that important when raising up humans, not robots. America will show how castes should not interpose between love and overall, society. A friend of mine was the one who recommended to me, or well, lest say all my friends were reading it, and I was completely denying to read it, but as you can see, I did it and even finish before most of them. I am a romance fan, that’s why if you like this kind of happy ending stories you should really read the Selection. As a good reader, I should at first advice you two things before reading it: 1. It has like tons and tons of nudes throughout the story, like I have never read something that had so many conflicts involved, so you might as well get frustrated;2. Once you start reading it, you will not stop.

Good luck, Oh and by the way, the second book is called The Elite and the third one The One, and a fourth one is coming by!!
